Water Well Identification
The Agricultural Adaptation Council of Ontario
provided a grant in the amount of $26,000 to the
Prescott-Russell Stewardship Council and the
Union des Cultivateurs franco-ontariens for the
start-up of the Water Well Identification in
Rural Areas project and the awareness
campaign “Water for Future Generations.”
The “Water for Future Generations”
campaign is aimed at both agricultural
producers and the general population to
increase awareness regarding the respectful
use of the environment such as restricting
animal contact to waterways, riverbanks,
buffer zones as well as well maintenance, to
name a few.
Landowners are asked to voluntarily have
the state of their wells evaluated and
determine potential risks of contamination.
They also receive pertinent information
regarding their water test samples from an
accredited laboratory.
Beginning Spring
2004, visits to agricultural producers will be
made to promote the project, locate and
evaluate the wells on the property and install
signs, the whole on a voluntary basis only |
