Envirothon franco-ontarien
The Envirothon championships are
considered to be the Environmental "Olympic Games". The Ontario Forestry
Association initiated the Ontario Envirothon
program in the mid 90’s and since May
2000, the Envirothon is also open to French
language students.
The program
encourages young people enrolled in high
school to learn more about the environment
through hands-on outdoor activities. Teams
consist of five students and a coach.
The
Envirothon raises awareness of
environmental issues through resource
materials, field trips and outdoor
competitions in five subject areas: general
ecosystem, aquatics, forestry, soils and
wildlife.
