Welcome to Prescott-Russell
The United Counties of Prescott and Russell is a rural community with a population of over 70,000 people. French is the primary language for the majority of the population and is part of part of the unique franco-ontarian culture in Prescott and Russell.
The total area is 201,152 ha of which 27 per cent is forested. Farming is the dominant practice, in particular dairy farming.
The surface geology is dominated by sand plains and clay. There is only one lake in the area -- Lake George. The whole territory drains into the Ottawa River. The two main rivers are the South Nation and the Rigaud.

The Larose Forest was once a desert as the result of farming on sandy soils. Today, due to reforestation efforts, it has recovered into a diverse, forested ecosystem.
