Ottawa Stewardship Council — Local Butternut Recovery Program Landowner Representative!

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority and the Ferguson Forest Centre have partnered with the Ottawa Stewardship Council to engage landowners and partners in the Ottawa Area to assist with a targeted Butternut Recovery Program.

Butternut Recovery Program Objectives:

  1. Inform and educate landowners about Butternut Canker Disease and conservation of this species.

  2. Locate, assess and map mature healthy Butternut trees and potentially resistant individuals and store information in a geodatabase.

  3. Forecast seed crop, collect seeds and grow healthy seedlings for planting on many public and private sites throughout eastern Ontario.

  4. Collect material from potentially resistant trees and test for hybridization.

  5. Monitor seedling survival and health.
