About the Council

Meet the Council
Our County
Ontario Stewardship

The Community Stewardship Council of Lanark County was created in 1996 under the auspices of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Stewardship Program. The mission, focus and terms of reference of the CSCLC were identified by the inaugural members and are based on the following principles and practises:

  • Promote stewardship ethics and best management practises
  • Draw on the experience and traditional knowledge of the community
  • Identify and address local stewardship needs in partnership with others
  • Resolve issues through compromise and respect

The volunteer members of our council represent landowners who are very active in the community. They are members of organizations such as, the Rideau and Mississippi Lake Stewards Association, Eastern Ontario Certified Forest Owners, Lanark and District Maple Syrup Producers, Fish and Game Conservation Clubs, Lanark County Soil and Crop Improvement Association, Upper Canada and District School Board, Field Naturalists, and the Eastern Ontario Model Forest.

This broad network of affiliations is very beneficial to the work of the council.
